Building a freelance business from scratch. Zero to £100k 💰

I’ve been getting a lot of questions from developers recently about how I went freelance successfully. They really seem to want the freedom that comes with being a freelancer: freedom of location, freedom of time and to a large degree freedom of income.

They want to end the commute and pointless meetings all aimed at making the a company that pays them as little as they can, but just enough so that they don’t quit, rich.

So having taught many successful online courses on software development I thought about creating a course on how to successfully build a freelance business.

But then I saw such courses on Twitter with guys who haven’t verified any of their claims and thought “you know what, let’s build a freelance business from scratch and document the journey”.

Show and tell, not just tell.

I am starting with zero prospects, zero clients, zero income. NADA.

I’m going to show you how to define your market, target clients and how to define which skills you’re going to offer them. I am going to show you how to prospect (find) leads, set your price and how to successfully convert them into high paying clients.

I am going to show you how to market and sell yourself, how to build a stunning portfolio, how to use social media effectively and which tools you need to use (accounting software etc) so that you can focus on doing what you do.

I am going to show you how to build a successful freelance business by building a successful freelance business. Practicing what I preach.

I have two long term clients from my old freelance business that I am going to continue to service separately (I won’t bring them across to the new company) and this is going to act as my 9–5. So if you have a job right now, that is going to be my equivalent. Then I am going to build a totally new freelance business on the side to show you how you can do it too.

I haven’t decided on anything yet. Only that I am going to build a freelance business from nothing into a thriving business that generates £100k a year.
